Default US ferro*vanadium spot prices have shot up

US ferro-vanadium spot prices have shot up as the effects of tight supply, stronger demand and a trade case filed against South Korean imports have rippled across the sector.

The commodity rose by more than a dollar in Metal Bulletin sister title AMM?s latest assessment to a range $8.30 to $8.50 per lb from a range of $7.30 to $7.80 per lb * a notable increase considering ferro*vanadium was the worst ferro*alloy performer of 2015, with average prices tumbling 53.97% over the course of the year.

While not yet back to January 2015's highs of $12.50 to $13.20 per lb, ferro*vanadium has certainly come around, now up about 45% from a range of $5.70 to $5.90 at the start of the year.

"There's a lot of news in the industry that hasn't really been taken into consideration for a long time, and the market is now starting to respond," one supplier source said. Download article .pdf
