New way to invest in the Rare Earths: A Pooled Development Fund

Quite an interesting development of late for those wanting to get into an early Rare Earth play that seems to have several distinctive differences over most of the current pathways.

A bit of history: A couple of years ago I sat down with a company that specialised in putting together Alternative Energy Indexes that investors could subscribe to. I suggested that they do a rare earth share index or ETF but they felt that the time wasn't right. I think that most would agree that they missed the boat... as in 2010 Van Eyck launched the USA Market Vectors Rare Earth/Strategic Metals ETF which trades under the symbol REMX.

And now we have here in Australia another interesting structure that allows investors interested in the REEs to invest in a range of potential REE resource deposits both here in Australia and New Zealand.

Rare Earths focused Pooled Development Fund

1. Provides a unique opportunity to invest into the rare earths sector.
2. Seeking to be the only ASX listed rare earths Pooled Development Fund (PDF).
3. Registration of the Company by the Federal Government as a PDF means most Shareholders pay no tax on capital gains or dividends.

Being in on the ground floor of a structure designed to capture a slice of arguably the rate limiting substrates for the emerging electron economy is more than a little interesting.

I'll be interested to get some feedback and questions....

I never realised New Zealand was also a 'lucky' mineral rich country.

Thanks for the heads up on this REE IPO Sparty.

Hi GTF

Hello Green tree Frog,
have you got bright orange feet? Or just the plain ones?

Re New Zealand.... NZ is full of surprises. It is still a "young" country and has a lot of volcanic activity. There was a great show on the ABC (I think) that talked about how nature had shaped man's experience. The segment on volcanoes was excellent. It showed how volcanoes affected everything from crops to mineralization and noted that the majority of the world's largest cities are near volcanoes. The copper age began in a volcanic region..... The show's postulate that the earth's molten core has a lot of exotic metals that we can't get at unless they are brought to the surface via an active volcanic lava flow or some sort of heated water eruption is known to all of us that invest in gold mines. Lihir Gold's ASX code: LGL was very apt... as I used to say be very careful investing in a gold mine in the center of a volcano as it was Likely God's Laughing (LGL) as we plowed our money into a gold mine that could have exploded at any time.

If you have ever been to New Zealand you would be aware of the very strange rock formations, hot springs, black sands etc that are scattered about. Rich geological pickings and so not surprising that there are pockets of rich rare earth deposits.... It makes getting into a very early play that seeks to explore these possibilities exciting and interesting.
