Natural gas is used primarily as a heating fuel and to generate electricity. It is also used in manufacturing and as a vehicle fuel.

Natural gas is lighter than air and needs to be cooled to -260 degrees Fahrenheit before it becomes liquid.

Natural gas has no odor, but companies add the chemical mercaptan to give it a rotten egg odor so that leaks can be detected.

Natural gas and oil often occur together.

Natural gas is used to make a variety of products, including ammonia, vinyl flooring, carpeting, Aspirin and artificial limbs.

Natural gas vehicles produce fewer emissions than traditional petroleum-based vehicles.

Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, can cause small earthquakes near drilling and extraction sites.

Fracking has also been controversial for other reasons, such as the use of industrial chemicals and the amount of water used in the process.
