Default Australia's National Hydrogen Strategy Sept. 2024

The strategy has identified 4 objectives:

Supply: the hydrogen industry supplies hydrogen that is globally cost competitive

Demand and decarbonisation: activating the most prospective domestic demand sectors for hydrogen-based decarbonisation

Community benefit: communities are aware of and can realise the benefits of hydrogen

Trade, investment and partnerships: establish trade at scale and leverage purposeful partnerships.

"In 1874, science fiction author Jules Verne envisioned a future in which
'water will one day be employed as fuel, that hydrogen and oxygen which constitute it, used
singly or together, will furnish an inexhaustible source of heat and light, of an intensity of which
coal is not capable. Someday the coal-rooms of steamers and the tenders of locomotives will,
instead of coal, be stored with these two condensed gases, which will burn in the furnaces with
enormous calorific power.

Default Executive summary

Australia has the resources, and the experience, to take advantage of increasing global momentum for clean hydrogen and make it our next energy export. There is potential for thousands of new jobs, many in regional areas – and billions of dollars in economic growth between now and 2050. We can integrate more low-cost renewable generation, reduce dependence on imported fuels, and help reduce carbon emissions in Australia and around the world.
