Default Qld's Hydrogen Power Plant

Queensland is taking a significant step towards its renewable energy future with the development of the state's first renewable energy peaking plant. The project, led by a partnership between CS Energy and GE Vernova, will involve the supply of hydrogen-ready peaking generation units to the Brigalow Peaking Power Plant, located at the future Kogan Creek clean energy hub in the Western Downs.

The plant is expected to have a fast-start capability, taking just five minutes to go from cold to full output. It will initially be capable of operating on 35% renewable hydrogen, with a potential pathway to 100% hydrogen over time.

The project is expected to deliver 10,000 jobs and boost the economy by $33 billion by 2040. The power station is expected to be operational by 2026.
