Default Lynas nears completion of WA processing plant

Lynas Rare Earths is nearing completion of its $575m processing facility in Kalgoorlie-Boulder. The company is targeting feed-on at the facility before the end of June, but commissioning and ramp-up of the plant remains "inherently unpredictable".

The company has been producing sufficient concentrate to feed its Malaysia plant and at the same time build inventory ready for feed-on at its Kalgoorlie-Boulder facility. The company is racing to finish Kalgoorlie as it appeals to the Malaysian Government on licence conditions that would force the shutdown of its plant in the east coast city of Kuantan on July 1.

Here are some key points from the article:

Lynas is a rare earths mining and processing company based in Australia.

The company is building a new processing facility in Kalgoorlie-Boulder to meet growing demand for its products outside of China.

The new facility is expected to be completed in June, but commissioning and ramp-up of the plant will take several months.

Lynas is facing uncertainty over the future of its Malaysia plant, which is facing closure due to strict conditions on its operating licence.

The company is appealing the decision and is racing to finish the Kalgoorlie facility in case the appeal is unsuccessful.
