Default India wants Australia's LNG

Adding to the already dire position facing manufacturers and householders as the Gladstone et al LNG export sucks their gas supplies dry India's is starting to move towards Australian LNG importation.

While South Korea, Japan and Taiwan had historically dominated supply contracts with Australian LNG producers, Das said: "there would be strong future gas demand from emerging developing countries, in particular India."

India currently imports about 13 million tonnes per annum of LNG and was the world?s fourth-largest LNG importer in 2013, following Japan, South Korea and China, and consumed almost 6 per cent of the global market, according to data from IHS Energy.

?The liquefaction and transportation costs are also lower and Australia is closer to India,? he said. ?It?s got the proximity plus abundance of gas reserves.?
