Default Upper Hunter: Wind Powered Pumped Hydro

Summary of the article:

WaterNSW awarded a development agreement to Upper Hunter Hydro (UHH):
To investigate two large pumped hydro projects capable of storing over 1000 MW for 8-12 hours (equivalent to 1 million household batteries).

UHH will access areas at Glenbawn and Glennies Creek dams for investigation and planning.
Project benefits:

Potential for integrated wind energy.

Creation of 1400 construction jobs and 80 ongoing operational positions.
Contribution to the transition to a renewable energy grid.
Potential for downward pressure on water costs for customers.

Project goals:
Aligns with the NSW Government's objectives and the NSW Pumped Hydro Roadmap.
Provides long-duration energy storage for renewable energy sources.
Adds to Australia's large energy storage solutions.
