Default Talison to List on ASX... Resurrection of SGW

Australia's only Lithium Producer Talison Lithium is giving Australian investors a chance to get back into the game. Many of us were holders of the now defunct Sons of Gwalia the company that used to hold the Greenbushes deposit.

That Australia doesn't have a currently ASX listed Lithium producer is odd as Australia holds somewhere around 20% of the world's Lithium resources. This lack probably reflects our Australian Govt's willful neglect of our junior mining sector with their refusal to encourage Australian investors to participate via a share relief scheme similar to the one that that has seen Canada's resource sector flourish.

At the moment Talison a USA-Canadian owned compnay is our sole producer and we have two near term emerging producers: GXY and RDR and several more with Lithium resources.

I am sure that Australian investors will be happy to participate.

Major lithium miner seeks $197m recharge

November 24, 2009 - 12:06PM
Talison Lithium, which last year produced almost a quarter of the world's lithium supply, plans to raise as much as $197 million as it floats of the Australian Securities Exchange and the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The company is about to embark on a global roadshow to spruik the offer which sees Rothchilds acting as financial adviser and Macquarie Capital Advisers as the Australian lead manager.

A total of 35 million shares will be offered under the dual listing arrangement at a price ranging between $4.10 and $5.10 per share. The proceeds of between $143.5 million and $196.4 million will be used to repay all debt, cover the costs of the offer and for working capital.

Talison mines and processes lithium minerals, used in mobile phones and laptops, from its Greenbushes Lithium Operations near Perth.

The Greenbushes Lithium Operations was acquired by a group of private equity firms led by Resource Capital Fund in 2007 as part of the larger Sons of Gwalia acquisition.

Talison expects lithium demand to grow by about 6 per cent a year until 2013. The growth in electric vehicles, using rechargeable lithium batteries, is tipped to provide a significant boost to the sector.

Talison chairman Peter Robinson said stimulus packages focusing on ''green'' initiatives would assist the demand for lithium, which can also be used in fibreglass for large wind turbine blades.

''Talison Lithium has a world-class lithium deposit and as an established producer of lithium the company is well positioned to respond to and increase in market demand for lithium,'' he said.

Default Talison's ASX listing was cancelled

I wonder if they will seek to re-list... it would be good to have exposure to Australia's largest lithium exporter.

"The Greenbushes Lithium Operations are located directly south and immediately adjacent to the town of Greenbushes, approximately 250km south of Perth and Fremantle, a major container shipping port, and 90km south east of the Port of Bunbury, a major bulk handling port, in the south-west of Western Australia. The Greenbushes Lithium Operations produce a range of lithium mineral products and have a well-established global customer base.

The Greenbushes ore body is a highly mineralised zoned pegmatite with a
strike length of more than 3km. The Greenbushes Lithium Operations Mineral Reserve is unique among known lithium deposits in that it contains approximately 50% spodumene.

The Greenbushes Lithium Operations have two processing plants located at
the mining operations. One plant produces technical-grade lithium concentrates, the other produces chemical-grade lithium concentrate. Ore containing 3.5% to 4.5% lithium oxide is fed into the processing plants which upgrade the lithium mineral, using gravity, heavy media, flotation and magnetic processes into a range of lithium concentrates for bulk or bagged shipment."
