Default Linc Energy PFS for South Australian UCG Power Generation

Press Release Source: ABN Newswire On Thursday 23 September 2010, 16:43 EST
Brisbane, Australia, Sep 23, 2010 - (ABN Newswire) - Linc Energy Ltd (ASX:LNC) (OTCQX:LNCGY) is pleased to announce it has awarded a pre-feasibility study contract on a proposed Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) for power generation project in South Australia to UHDE Shedden and Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM).

The pre-feasibility study is anticipated to be completed by the end of the year and will primarily focus on a commercial UCG power project with numerous UCG gasifiers to feed synthesis gas (syngas) to a gas-fired power plant.
For the study, UHDE Shedden will be responsible for gathering data for UCG synthesis gas processing and the infrastructure required for a UCG power project scope. SKM will be responsible for gathering data on the potential for power generation and transmission, as well as the environmental components of a potential project in South Australia.

Associated infrastructure and gas handling processes required to support commercial UCG operations will also be completed.

"South Australia needs to produce more power for its needs. Our plan is to dispatch power generated from UCG syngas into the national electricity market to service power markets in South Australia, Victoria, and New South Wales. This study takes us to the next step," said Chief Executive Officer Peter Bond.

"South Australia is our primary focus for the commercialisation of UCG in Australia. The South Australian Government has been very supportive of the potential that UCG offers, and has been very willing to engage with us," said Bond.

"We will continue to explore all resource opportunities in South Australia, including traditional oil and gas, and UCG. We have an aggressive oil exploration program planned for our tenements in the Arckaringa Basin, set to start in 2011," he said.

Earlier this year Linc Energy announced an 'oil show' at the Maglia-1 site on its Arckaringa Basin Petroleum Exploration Licence, representing the most significant oil discovery in the basin to date. Drilling continues in the Walloway Basin for a precise location suitable for UCG. The development and drilling of several highly prospective oil formations will become a near term goal for Linc Energy in the Arckaringa Basin and a significant focus for Linc Energy's South Australian team.

Linc Energy will officially open its South Australian project office in Adelaide tomorrow, marked by the attendance of South Australian Mineral Resources Development Minister, Paul Holloway.

Bond said "The opening of this new South Australian office is just a reflection of the overall growth of the company in South Australia and the opportunities that are ripe for future development."

Hello members
my first post here on the forum.
LNC is looking like moving ahead into production of a gas to liquids plant in S.A.
then has also sold some large south east queensland coal tenements to fund its operations and has also the sale of Teresa also to prop up its efforts/ wallet , rights to AFC's fuel cell technology for next ten yrs or so and 10% stake in the company also.
Does anyone else hold or see the future possibilities this company has . Or any news of the latest coal sale?

Default Hello Atomic

Hi Atomic,
I hold LNC. I have done so for several years as I believe that they are well placed to lead Australia into liquid fuel independence.

* Linc Energy acquired South Australia petroleum and gas explorer, SAPEX Limited, in October 2008
* This acquisition provided Linc Energy with access to Petroleum Exploration Licences and Exploration Licences across the Arckaringa, St Vincent and Walloway Basins in South Australia
* Drilling, exploration, feasibility and design work is underway to prioritise a location for Linc Energy's first commercial UCG to GTL operation

United States
* Linc Energy has over 296,000 acres of coal lease holdings in the United States across the states of Alaska, Montana, North Dakota, and Wyoming.
* These coal leases are located in well known energy producing regions, being the Cook Inlet, Powder River and Williston Basins.

LNC's efforts are at the leading edge of coal to liquids technology and if they commercialise the South Australian Arckaringa's coal deposits said to be in the billions of tons and highly suitable for UCG then they will set Australia on the pathway to liquid fuel independence. See http://www.ucg-gtl.com. I believe that LNC will build their first UCG-GTL plant in South Australia as the Qld Govt has shown scant regard for UCG's potential and has almost actively discouraged it let alone provided a climate suitable for investing a billion dollars for a UCG GTL plant that could be closed on a politically motivated whim. The Arckaringa basin is arid, sparsely populated and not subject to a powerful farming lobby.

(Personally I wonder if LNC will snap up CTP as CTP has just on a trillion tons of UCG suitable coal in the Perdika region and that would allow for literally hundreds of years of UCG-GTL oil production. CTP's minimal market cap ($60m) and high cash holdings would hardly cause LNC any pain at all.)

Hello Sparty , can you see any reason for the advances of the SP at the moment , other than say some intos picking up some interest , without any press releases from lnc , i am wondering what is about to happen with this company, perhaps another coal tenement sale?

Hi Atomic,
LNC has enjoyed some solid news flows... http://wotnews.com.au/news/Linc_Energy/

I also think that some of the broking houses that were very anti Peter Bond now have had to change their minds....

You have asked a lot of good and thought provoking comments and questions...

I'm not sure why they haven't announced more about the Walloway project recently. They seemed to have made steady progress and my guess would be that they have been busy expanding into other countries to mitigate the country risk associated with Australia and our looming, coal hostile, Green Senate.

Having corresponded with a few of them I think that Linc would/are well advised to set up projects off-shore as we seem to be on the verge of a huge hysterical anti-anything to do with coal campaign. That UCG is a much cleaner process than what we have now doesn't seem to count in their eyes.....

The Hydrogen Fuel Cell project is exciting and could be a good step towards using Hydrogen as a fuel source more widely....

Re CTP: Central Petroleum are going to be one of Australia's energy giants and I personally think that they should tie in with LNC as soon as possible.....

Perhaps you could email LNC; [email protected] and ask them about Walloway. I have always found Peter Bond to be courteous and informative.

And thank you for your post here....
