Default Laser beam power transfer

Summary of the article "DARPA looks to laser to beam power across the world" by New Atlas,

DARPA, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency of the United States Department of Defense, is developing a new program called Persistent Optical Wireless Energy Relay (POWER) that aims to use lasers relayed by airborne platforms to power machines thousands of miles away. This technology could have a wide range of potential applications, from powering military drones to providing electricity to remote communities.

The POWER program is still in its early stages, but the goal is to develop a system that can deliver 10 kilowatts of laser power across 200 kilometers (125 miles). This would be enough to power a variety of devices, including small aircraft, sensors, and communications equipment.

One of the biggest challenges facing the POWER program is the massive losses caused by converting laser light to electricity and back across multiple hops. However, DARPA is confident that this challenge can be overcome with new advances in laser technology. https://newatlas.com/technology/darp...oss-distances/

If successful, the POWER program could revolutionize the way we power devices in remote and hard-to-reach locations. It could also lead to new applications for laser technology, such as powering space-based satellites and vehicles.

Default What could possibly go wrong?

I don't think I'd like to be anywhere near to the target.
