Default Towards enhanced reservoir Geothermal

"Fervo heralds a revolution in geothermal power technology" from New Atlas:

Fervo Energy, a geothermal energy company, has successfully tested its "next-generation geothermal" technology. The company's technology uses horizontal drilling to access hot rocks deep underground, which can then be used to generate electricity. Fervo's first full-scale commercial pilot, Project Red in Nevada, has produced a flow rate of 63 liters per second, at temperatures up to 191 °C (376 °F). This is enough to power 500 US homes.

Fervo's technology has the potential to revolutionize the geothermal energy industry. Traditional geothermal plants require high-temperature reservoirs, which are limited in number and location. Fervo's technology, on the other hand, can access lower-temperature reservoirs, which are more widespread. This could make geothermal energy more accessible and affordable, and could help to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Visit Fervo: https://fervoenergy.com/fervo-energy...on-geothermal/

Default Fervo Energy plans to open the world's largest enhanced geothermal powe

Fervo Energy has announced plans to open the world's largest enhanced geothermal power plant in Beaver County, Utah.
The Cape Station plant is scheduled to start producing 90 megawatts of continuous power in 2026, with plans to expand to 400 megawatts by 2028.
The plant will provide dispatchable power, meaning it can produce power on demand or shut down when other sources like solar and wind are producing.
Currently, 53 megawatts of the plant's power have been sold to California customers, with no agreements yet with Utah utilities.
The project is built on technology developed by Utah FORGE, a University of Utah-run laboratory funded by the Department of Energy.
Enhanced geothermal energy involves drilling into solid rock and using techniques like horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing to create a closed-loop system for generating electricity.
Fervo has made significant advances in drilling speed, completing its latest well 70% faster than initial test wells in 2022.
The company recently secured $244 million in financing, with Devon Energy as the lead investor.
The Cape Station plant is located on land leased from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and private landowners.
The Department of Energy estimates that enhanced geothermal has the potential to power 65 million homes and businesses in the U.S.
