Default City Street Thumper for Geothermal Detection

This article "Urban Vibro Trucks will thump city streets for geothermal options" published by Newatlas describes an innovative German company called Herrenknecht AG that has developed new trucks that can be used to explore underground areas in cities for geothermal energy.

Traditionally, finding suitable locations for geothermal energy in cities has been difficult because equipment to send seismic waves (vibrations) underground is bulky and not suited for tight city spaces.

Herrenknecht's Urban Vibro Trucks are like regular trucks but with a special device that can thump the ground and send vibrations. Sensors on the ground then pick up the echoes of these vibrations and create a map of the underground. This map can then be used to find good locations for geothermal wells.

The trucks are expected to be available for purchase in early 2025.
