Default E-methane - PtF

https://www.sciencedirect.com/scienc...60319923013393 discusses renewable power-to-fuel (PtF) technology, which is seen as a crucial element in the transition to a fossil-free energy system. Here's a breakdown of the key points:

Motivation:

Decoupling the energy sector from fossil fuels: PtF aims to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, the main contributor to environmental issues.

Main components:

Green hydrogen (H2): Produced by splitting water using renewable electricity through water electrolysis.

Direct carbon dioxide (CO2) capture: CO2 is captured from various sources like power plants, biogas production, etc.

Synthetic fuel production: H2 and CO2 are combined to create carbon-neutral synthetic fuels like methane (PtCH4), methanol (PtCH3OH), and ammonia (PtNH3).

Benefits:

Effective energy carriers: Synthetic fuels can be stored, transported, and used in different sectors like transportation and industry.

Grid balancing: PtF systems can store and adapt to renewable energy surpluses, helping to stabilize the electricity grid.

Decarbonization: PtF reduces the carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to a cleaner energy future.

Focus of the paper:

Providing an overview of recent advancements in PtF technology for producing synthetic fuels as substitutes for fossil fuels.

Defining the framework of PtF technology, including key processes like water electrolysis, CO2 capture & storage, and fuel production.

Presenting existing PtF projects based on the generated fuel, input energy, efficiency, and applications.

Discussing challenges and prospects for achieving widespread PtF implementation.
In essence, the paper dives into the promising technology of PtF, highlighting its potential to transform the energy landscape towards a sustainable future free from fossil fuel dependence.

Default Santos -Carbon Neutral E-methane

https://www.santos.com/news/santos-t...-cooper-basin/

This is an article about Santos collaborating with Toho Gas on producing carbon-neutral e-methane in the Cooper Basin. It discusses the potential for e-methane to be a substitute for natural gas. E-methane could be made using green hydrogen and CO2 captured from industrial emissions or the air. Santos and Toho Gas are looking at the Cooper Basin because it has the resources needed to make and transport e-methane. If successful, this collaboration could extend the life of the Cooper Basin and create jobs.
